Description
Diving beyond yourself with PADI Rescue Diver
Up to this point, your diving education has rightly focused on you: your buoyancy, your gas consumption, and your enjoyment of the underwater world. The PADI Rescue Diver course introduces a shift to lift your focus from your own dive profile and expand it to encompass your entire environment and the well-being of every diver on your team.
This course will fine-tune your observation skills, teaching you to recognize the subtle, often overlooked signs of stress or discomfort in another diver. You’ll learn to spot a minor equipment issue or a moment of anxiety and offer a simple, reassuring solution before it can escalate into a serious problem.
The reason a certified Rescue Diver can remain calm is because they have a mental toolkit of solutions for nearly any situation. You will learn to think like a rescuer, which truly makes you the diver that everyone wants to follow and the dive buddy that everyone trusts implicitly.

PADI Rescue Diver Course Information
The PADI Rescue Diver course is an intensive, hands-on program designed to build true competence. Through a series of confined water exercises and open water scenarios, you will truly master the skills needed to prevent and manage diving emergencies, including:
- Self-Rescue and Diver Stress Management: You’ll learn to handle common equipment malfunctions, overcome physical challenges, and, most importantly, recognize and manage stress in yourself and other divers before it escalates.
- Emergency Management and Equipment: You’ll learn to develop an Emergency Action Plan for any dive site, know how to use emergency equipment like first aid and oxygen kits, and effectively brief and delegate tasks to other available divers.
- Responding to a Panicked Diver: A panicked diver presents one of the most significant risks. You will master specific techniques to approach and assist a panicked diver, both on the surface and underwater.
- Locating and Surfacing an Unresponsive Diver: In a worst-case scenario, every second counts. You will learn efficient underwater search patterns to locate a missing diver and practice the correct, controlled techniques for bringing an unresponsive, non-breathing diver to the surface.
- In-Water Rescue Breathing: You will practice the challenging but life-saving skill of administering rescue breaths in the water while towing the diver to safety and removing their equipment.
- Exiting an Unresponsive Diver: You’ll learn multiple methods for safely removing an unresponsive diver from the water onto a boat or shore, which is often one of the most physically demanding parts of a rescue.
- Integrated Accident Scenarios: Finally, you will put everything together. The course culminates in realistic, full-scale scenarios where you will manage a simulated dive accident.
Mastering these competencies is what fundamentally changes you as a diver. You will leave this course with a new level of confidence to be a true asset on any dive, anywhere in the world.
